Soweto Kinch

While still being on a jazz wave I'll present you another fine musician, this time coming from England who has his own unique way of combining jazz with hip-hop. Soweto Kinch, a native londoner is a accomplished jazz alto saxophonist who does share a love for hip-hop too although his music sound more jazzy understandable giving the fact that Soweto Kinch is a self-taught jazz musician and fan of John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Duke Ellington. His music recounts stories from his everyday live like living on a welfare and in council estates, the unemployment in the UK or the good education which is for the privileged few. And that he performs using his sax and his skills as a MC. Winner of numerous jazz awards Kinch speaks so very humbly about his achievements. He does collaborate occasionally with other artists like Eska Mtungwazi (on "Good Nyooz), Homecut and Corinne Bailey Rae (on Homecut's "I Don't Even Know") and numerous other jazz musicians. No matter whether you listen to Louis Armstrong or A Tribe Called Quest, Soweto Kinch is sure to appeal to fans of both genres. Soweto Kinch's soul music is for the appreciative few with refined taste in contemporary jazz and hip-hop music. Listen and feel. Best enjoyed at late night in small company.
